National Health Service
The National Health Service (NHS) identifies the set of functions, activities and care services managed and supplied by the Italian government and called LEA (Essential Levels of Assistance).
These healthcare services in the Marche region are guaranteed by the ASUR Unique Regional Health Authority, subdivided itself into five large areas, corresponding to the different provinces of the region.
The performances of the LEA are divided into three main areas:
- Collective healthcare in life and working environment: includes all activities of protection of the health of the individual and the community;
- District Support: assures territorial health services to the community, including for example the primary health care (general medicine and pediatrics), pharmaceutical care, outpatient specialist healthcare, family counseling, mental health services, services for disabled people, etc.;
- Hospital care: includes a package of services including the emergency room, the ordinary and long-term hospitalisation. The National Health Service shall ensure the hospital care through shelters which, depending on the organizational model, can be distinguished in: Hospital center (PO), Hospitals (AO), University Hospital (AOU), Scientific institutions for hospitalization and care (IRCCS), Nursing homes or Private health center accredited with the NHS.
